Still Not Convinced | ChromeOS

I’m still not convinced with CHROMEOS.

I mean, why get a device that runs on a web browser and run Android apps in emulation, while there are devices that run Android apps natively and still comes with the Chrome browser instead.

Others will say that it’s just the same, just the other way around, but then again, running apps in emulation creates a layer of potential problems as opposed to running them natively and still get the functionality of the Chrome OS via the native Chrome Browser.

So, at 2024, I’d still say, better get an Android device (e.g. tablet) than a ChromeOS device.

HOW WILL STARLINK DEPLOY DIRECT TO CELL SERVICE in the PHILIPPINES?

#SpaceX via #STARLINK is the GAME CHANGER in the TELECOMMUNICATIONS industry.

It took STARLINK less than the time the local telcos to deploy cell sites to provide INTERNET ACCESS to rural GEOGRAPHICALLY ISOLATED areas.

Now, with the launch of the much awaited DIRECT TO CELL SERVICE, I wonder how will the local telcos react to it. Smart and Globe are already partnering with different satellite companies to provide the same, unfortunately, with the history of how they worked, I don’t think they will be able to compete with #SpaceX.

Now the question is, will STARLINK partner with a local telco to deploy it, or will Starlink launch their own service locally. All of these talk of course will depend IF local telcos will NOT BLOCK Starlink’s entry in the mobile telco arena.

Why I’m NOT GETTING the iMac with M3

I love the design, how thin it is, BUT I’m still not getting one.

I love the concept of ALL-IN-ONE computers, but the practical person in me tells me not to get it.

As an ALL-IN-ONE everything is in one device, the CPU is integrated in the monitor. It’s the advantage and the disadvantage of it.

It’s the advantage to it, because there’s less clutter. One does not need to worry about the different dangling wires that is the bane of every desktop owner. Unfortunately, that’s also the disadvantage to it. Once the CPU needs replacement, like, hmmmm when it becomes outdated, one is left with a monitor that can’t be used with something else.

That’s the reason why I stick with a monitor and a cpu set up. That way, whenever I need to change the CPU, I can get a new one and use the monitor with it.

Globe eSIM Horrible Story (again)

I had my phone upgraded which means, it’s hand-me-down season for the kids, which means, we have to visit Globe to have eSIMs installed.

It’s already 2023 and getting an eSIM shouldn’t be a big deal right? Like, one can get an eSIM via an app (e.g. AIRALO), install and activate it in less than 5 minutes.

Unfortunately, that’s NOT THE WAY Globe does it. Just like when we had the first eSIMs for the kid’s phone last year, we had to go to a Globe physical store (still in MALL OF ASIA), wait for more than an hour for my name to be called, another 10 minutes for the guy at the counter to “start the process” and around 20 minutes to “activate” the card.

I don’t understand why Globe has to make it VERY DIFFICULT to transfer an eSIM to another phone.

It’s either, they DON’T HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY that’s existing today, OR they’re just HESITANT to get that technology. Either way, it’s not a pleasant experience.

THE LANZONES from Bangkok

When I told people that I’m going to Bangkok, one of the many things they told me is the LANZONES.

On my first day, while checking out the stalls outside the PLATINUM MALL, I saw packs of LANZONES in styro plates covered with cling wrap. The price…ranges from 150 to 250 Thai Baht for a bundle. Didn’t bother buying yet because it’s just my first day.

On the very last day (thankful? for the delayed flight), I was given an opportunity to check out the fruits sold on the sidewalks around the hotel. I came along one…and when I asked for the price, she told me it’s 40 Thai Baht per kilo! That’s around Php62/kilo! Man, that’s cheaper than the Lanzones sold here in the Philippines. So, naturally, I bought 2 kgs without hesitation, without tasting it (banking on the fact that a lot of people swear that it tastes good) and without thinking how I’ll stuff the fruit in my luggages. Eventually, my luggage problem was solved by an ECHO BAG which became my one and only hand-carry going back to the Philippines.

Back in the Philippines…of course we just stuffed it in the chiller of the fridge…slowly consuming it, the first one were, hmmmm yeah, it’s good, but as the days pass by, oh man, the outer skin may have darken but the inside is still plump and juicy and I tell you, it’s sweet as hell! It’s like eating a very sweet jello with a skin!

Smartbro 5G Rocket Wifi | It’s Back!

I say it’s back because it’s been gone for a while. Too long that I assumed Smart is set to replace it with a new modem. Looks like Smart just replenished their stock and it’s back in Smart’s online store.

I’m posting it because I still find it relevant nowadays. Especially for me because I’m always interested in emerging and new tech, most especially when it comes to communications.

Maybe it’s because it’s a frustration I had whenever I go home to my home province. It’s an island in the Philippines’ Bicol region, called BURIAS ISLAND. It’s one of the three island groups in the province of Masbate.

Anyways, even up to now, people there struggle with communications. Which probably is the reason why I love communication technology.

Going back. I spend most of my time in cellular covered areas, so I don’t think I’ll be needing one of these, but then again, why not right? It’s PREPAID anyways, so I don’t have to worry about recurring charges. But what’s stopping me is the price. Although it has gone down Php3000.00 being Php15995 in its original price, it’s still a bit pricey. And Smart’s 5G signal (based on my 5G capable phone experience) has degraded a lot!

So a little more time to consider. Ph13k is not that cheap.

GOT THE MAYA PHYSICAL CARD

Had the courage to order the MAYA Physical VISA card. Why? All just for the heck of it!

I don’t need it. But I’ve been thinking of getting one for the longest time already. I’m a sucker for good design. Again, I don’t have a need for it, because I don’t use MAYA that often.

I was just intrigued with the design, oh and it can be customized with what ever name I want to put it (more like a username than anything else).

I got updates via my VIBER number on the delivery status.

It came in a MATTE BLACK envelope that opens on one end. The card is encased in a hard paper that comes with instructions on how to link the card to the MAYA APP/account.

The instructions were fairly simple. Open the app, and tap the Card to activate. Since I ordered the card thru the app, upon opening the app, the Card is already there, all I needed to do was to ACTIVATE it by inputting the card details.

Unlike the typical DEBIT cards…the card number, expiration date and the CVV number are all found in the back.

The overall feel of the card is CLASSY.

A Problem with my very first BILLING | Starlink

My problem is, I’m getting my Starlink on the 3rd week of the month, and my billing starts on the 1st day of the month, which means, when I get my Starlink device on the 20th (if the delivery details is correct), I have around 10 days to use it (fair enough) and I’ll get charged for a month’s worth of usage.

I’m not disputing this, I know about this even before buying the device. I’ve factored this in already, unfortunately, I’ll be going to the province on the 1st week of August and that’s when I really plan to use the device initially. And that will be another billing cycle i.e. another month’s worth of charges.

I don’t know if I can PAUSE the service (I got the ROAM plan which has a PAUSE feature), before the 7 days trial ends and UNPAUSE the service when I’m in my destination already.
